On April 1st (April fools day) google changed there logo to it saying Topeka because the small city in Kansas named Topeka changed it's city name to Google. In the article "A Different Kind of Company Name" written by Eric Schmidt talks about how google is so happy about Kansas moving gesture to change there city name to google, so only on April 1st google changed there name to Topeka for the day. I think it is very interesting that a mayor of a state changed there city name to Google. What do you think made the mayor to come up with his decision to change the city name to a website name. Do you think it will make Google any bigger than it is now?

Fixing poverty would not be easy. It would take a lot of hardwork not only for those that are reaching out to the poor, but for the suffering as well. A system would need to be created that helps people self-improve and become mobile. This requires dedication and drive to become a strong person again. Educational programs would also need to be put in place for those that have missed out on school majority of their lives. Communities would also need to get involved. Poverty cannot be solved by one person, it would have to take several people that are determined to make a change in the world. According to the article "Poverty," programs like these would help the individuals find jobs they weren't trained for and make up any education that was lost throughout their struggle. I don't think there is a correct solution for poverty, but I do think that reaching out to those will help the problem. Whether it be donating money or just smiling to a homeless person, this will help these suffering people direct their lives onto a new path.

Poverty is one of the biggest problems affecting our world today. According to the article, "Poverty in the World," more than 1.2 billion people—one in every five on Earth—survive on less than $1 a day. Even the wealthy are beginning to find themselves becoming less successful. Our world, and especially our economy is suffering from this. There are many causes of the issue. Starting with lack of responsibility. Majority of the people suffering from poverty are out on the streets due to poor decisions they made in their past. Drugs, crime, and violence are major reasons why someone would end up in poverty. However, the smaller percentage of homeless people are mentally disabled. Often times a family realizes that their son or daughter will have to be taken care of the rest of their life, so they drop them. Leaving the person out on the street with nothing. Next is bad governmet policy. Our government does not put very much effert into helping those in need. In the same article, "Poverty in the World," it states that one child dies every three to five seconds. My question is, why wouldn't governments reach out to these people? Instead of argueing over money, why not give it to those in need instead of being selfish. That's what I think our world is. Selfish. People are too busy worrying about themselves, when they could be helping those who rarely get one meal a day. The poorest people in the world will also have less access to health and education. Also, problems of malnutrition and disease affect the poorest in society. These people, who try everyday to have their voices be heard, will never have the chance to be heard in the public. This makes it even harder for them to escape poverty. Finally, wealthy businesses are not reaching out to the poor. So many companies could donate money, but they choose not to because of the economy. This to me is just selfish. Poverty is everywhere and it needs to be reduced so that our economy will be more stabilized and balanced.

When I was doing research on poverty for the Change the World Project I read an article called "World Hunger and Poverty" on Poverty.com. In the article it talks about how many deaths are caused and how it is effecting the world today, In the article it says that there are 25,000 deaths a day and when I read that I was shocked that no one is making a REAL change to poverty and world hunger. If we don't fix world hunger or poverty the world is going to get worst. It makes me sad when I read about all these deaths because every death makes a family suffer from it and I can't imagine having someone die in my family. So if no one takes action soon then I will. There are many parts of the world that have severe poverty and many people dying. There is a lot of food to feed everyone in the world but the people who are starving are in poor towns so they can't afford to feed themselves or there family.

Over the past weeks our class has been doing research on how we would change one thing about the world and it has been somewhat difficult, but I have found this project interesting because I didn't know that poverty was as bad as it is. When our class reads every ones paragraphs I enjoy it because I learn more about blood diamonds, poverty, etc. The more and more I research about the things that are happening around the world are surprising. It's unbelievable what people are going through and people are sitting on there couches not doing anything about it. I have told people like my mom and friends and we are thinking of a way on how to make a change to this. This project may just be to help are writing get better but to me it is also important outside of school and a will do anything to help out and make a change to this. This project has opened my eyes to whats going on around the world.

Computers and laptops are not a waste of time and i know that for a fact! The only reason i use my laptop is for school work and during class we use them to type up essays, and blog. It is important for us to use laptops and computers more because as we get older things are getting more technologically advanced, so we are most likely going to use computers for a job and it's better to learn and know how to use them now then later. So what I'm trying to say is that we might as well forget the pencil and paper and start getting ready for the future and use laptops or computers. I would rather use a laptop because everything is more accessible then with a pen and paper. I think using a computer in class is better because it is more organized then a notebook and if you have to do research on something then you can do that during class. The problem about using computers in class is that the kids can play games but our teacher makes us put the laptop away and use pen and paper for the rest of class.

After reading the article, "Gonzaga's Basketball Program," I was fascinated by what they had to say. The article said that Gonzaga is not as strong as they have been in the past seasons. In my opinion, this is one of their best years they have had s far. My cousin, Matt, plays for Gonzaga and he is one of my biggest role models. Yes, Gonzaga is young and only have two returning seniors, but experience is not everything. All that counts is desire and motivation. Any team, no matter how old, can play just as good as anyone else. All it takes is team work. Matt, being one of the leading scorers, is putting his team on his back and boosting their self-confidence. He has told me that he has told his team many times to play as if they have been at Gonzaga for many years. He tells them that they are no longer Freshman, they are strong, experienced players that can beat anyone out their if they put their mind to it. This is why Matt is one of my biggest role models. He intills so much confidence and desire in me. He makes me want to do great things and go far in life. Without him, I would have no clue how to reach any of my goals. But with his help he has taught me to push myself and work hard so I can become something great.

The earthquake in Haiti has caused many terrible conflicts. Thousands are suffering from diseases, infections, and major illnesses that have caused many deaths.
Haiti is not a very weathy country to begin with. People are starving and the country has been suffering a major drought. Now that the earthquake happened, these conflicts have become even worse. I would do anything for these people. So many lives are being taken. Someday I wish to travel to one of these places to do some community service. I want to help the less fortunate and the suffering. I think that those that are very well off should contribute some of their time to people like the ones living in Haiti.

Martin Luther King Day, a day that will always be remembered by people around the world. While reading an article on ESPN called "I Have A Dream Speech and Hoops," by Diamond Leung, I realized the significance of this special day. It is not only to support those that were discriminated, but it was also a day of inspiration for a young man. This young man was volunteering to be a security guard for a day when he ran into Dr. King. He was very fond of this man, so he asked for a copy of his "I Have A Dream Speech." After reading through the speech, the young man took a step back and thought about his life. Ever since that day, the man has been very succesful. Throughout the rest of his life, he coached Washington State, Iowa, and USC. While reading this article, i started to think about my own life. I realized that life should never be taken for granted. I am so lucky to have a family that supports me and loves me. I am also so fortunate to be treated equally unlike the African Americans who lived during the time Dr. Martin Luther King did. This article has also showed me that to attain your goals, like Martin Luther King did, you have to take risks, be courageous and complete everything you do in confidence.

In Haiti there was a huge earthquake, immediately it caught me thinking, why did Haiti have to have an earthquake occur and not somewhere else? Everyone in Haiti is already having a horrible time with a huge drought and people starving. But now the earthquake is making it twenty times more difficult for them. I feel so bad for everyone struggling in Haiti and I would do anything to help them out. i noticed that they had things during football games to try and make people text a certain number and it would donate 10$ of your money to the people in Haiti. I thought that was smart and very helpful for everyone in Haiti.

Today is Martin Luther King day and i found an article on espn. It is called "I Have a Dream Speech and Hoops" by Diamond Leung. It is about a guy who volunteered to be a security gaurd for the day and he walked up to Dr. King and ask if he could have a copy of the speech. Ever since that day the man has been very successful and he ended up getting a job to coach Washington State, Iowa, and USC. When I was reading this article, I thought to myself how crazy it is that one day could change your life. The coach is now very successful and having the courage to go up to Martin Luther King and ask for a copy of his speech is pretty brave and i found that interesting. I think for someone to become successful in life, you have to take very big risks and have the courage and be confident.
